JOB PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE:

The Systems Administrator (I) position is a junior-level position that requires moderate experience in Linux Systems Administration and network administration.  The emphasis on this position is in refining the individual’s knowledge of CCI mission critical systems and services and enhancing their skills at rapid problem acquisition and resolution.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Hands On
  • Mastering CCI procedures
  • Mastering the location and role of all CCI production resources
  • Performing second-tier 24/7 oncall duties, troubleshooting production environment hardware and software problems as they arise
  • Following problem escalation and documentation procedures
  • Pro-active identification of potential technical problems and proposing candidate solutions
  • Proficiency with the perl scripting language
  • Customizing and debugging 3rd party perl products
  • Creation of standalone utilities for automating tasks
  • Competence in the php scripting language
  • Developing a full understanding of how the Apache web server is configured and the commands for maintaining it
  • Basic configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco switching and load-balancing platforms
  • High level of proficiency with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Linux hosts
  • Proficiency with Veritas NetBackup Management
  • Coordinating with 3rd Party vendors for product support and installation
  • Independently managing 1-4 week projects
  • Working with Operations group members (DBAs and SAs) to successfully complete tasks and promote team cohesiveness
  • Troubleshooting production and office network problems as they arise
  • Performing duties as requested by senior Operations group members
Administrative
  • Accurately estimating time frames for work completion and hitting them
  • Documenting task progress through online ticketing system
  • Participating in maintaining overall department documentation

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:
  • Linux Installation/Configuration/Administration
  • Windows Installation/Configuration/Administration (preferred)
  • Mac Installation/Configuration/Administration (preferred)
  • Familiarity with x86 hardware troubleshooting
  • Competence in the perl scripting language
  • Proficiency in shell programming
  • Mastery of Apache installation/configuration
  • Understanding of the principles of Disaster Recovery and experience implementing or managing a disaster recovery plan
  • Understanding of TCP/IP and competence in networking troubleshooting
  • Understanding of common networking protocols: HTTP, SMTP, DNS, SNMP
  • Willingness to participate in tackling innovative projects
  • Willingness to work in a demanding 24/7 environment
  • Willingness to work in a structured team environment
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and oral and written communication skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Education Requirement:

  • BA/BS in Technical Field (or equivalent industry experience)

Minimum Experience Requirement:

  • 2-3 years of professional UNIX or Linux systems administration
