BlackPlanet.com wants to find out how many of its members are truly Wired for Battle, in its new MC contest.

With its Wired for Battle MC contest, BlackPlanet is giving its members from April 12 to April 19 to submit MP3s of original hip hop songs they have created.

"We're a community site, so we'd like to give members a chance to be creative and show their work to the world," said Alvita Robertson, of BlackPlanet member services.

The best 50 submissions will be loaded into the Battle Player, a customized online music player, in which members can rate each song. Each week in May, the 10 songs that receive the lowest ratings by members, will be eliminated.

Eventually five finalists will be flown to New York City for the final battle on Wednesday, June 21, the first day of summer. The final battle, in which Styles P will serve as a judge, will also be broadcasted on the Internet.

In correlation with Wired for Battle, BlackPlanet will be conducting chats with the likes of Mary J. Blige, Pitbull and Rhymefest of Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music imprint.
